Home camera RTSP
US and European Home Camera RTSP Guide
Popular home camera brands fall into three groups: local RTSP-friendly cameras, app-enabled RTSP cameras, and cloud-first cameras that usually do not expose a standard local RTSP stream.

RTSP-friendly
Reolink, Amcrest, Foscam, Axis, Bosch, Hanwha and many PoE cameras commonly expose local RTSP or ONVIF.
App-enabled RTSP
Tapo, Eufy, Wyze and some EZVIZ-style cameras may require enabling RTSP/NAS/third-party streaming in the vendor app.
Cloud-first
Ring, Google Nest, many Arlo battery models and some doorbells usually rely on cloud APIs instead of standard RTSP.
Brand support summary
Always verify the exact model. Battery cameras and video doorbells often behave differently from wired PoE cameras in the same brand family.
| Brand | RTSP status | Typical port | Common URL / setup path | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reolink | Usually supported | 554 | /h264Preview_01_main | Enable RTSP/ONVIF where required; battery models can be limited. |
| Amcrest | Usually supported | 554 | /cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0 | Dahua-style path; good fit for local NVR and SmartRTSP. |
| Foscam | Often supported | 554 / 88 | /videoMain | Some models use non-standard ports or require web UI setup. |
| UniFi Protect | Supported via Protect | 7447 | rtsp://IP:7447/<camera_id>_0 | Enable RTSP per camera in UniFi Protect; use generated stream settings. |
| TP-Link Tapo | App-enabled | 554 | /stream1 | Create a camera account in the Tapo app; stream2 is sub-stream. |
| Eufy Security | Model-dependent | 554 | /live0 | Often enabled through NAS/RTSP settings; some models only stream on events. |
| Wyze | Firmware/model-dependent | 554 | /live | Some workflows require specific firmware or a bridge. |
| Axis | Supported | 554 | /axis-media/media.amp | Professional-grade ONVIF/RTSP cameras; configure stream profiles in web UI. |
| Bosch | Supported | 554 | /video?inst=1 | Use Bosch tools or ONVIF discovery for exact stream profile. |
| Hanwha / Samsung Wisenet | Supported | 554 | /profile1/media.smp | Profile1 is commonly main stream; profile2 is sub-stream. |
| Ring | Usually no standard RTSP | - | Cloud/app workflow | Most Ring cameras and doorbells are cloud-first; choose RTSP/ONVIF cameras for local viewing. |
| Google Nest | Usually no standard RTSP | - | Google Home / cloud workflow | Nest cameras target cloud and Google Home integrations, not raw RTSP viewers. |
| Arlo | Model-dependent / often cloud-first | - / 554 if exposed | Use model-specific local stream settings if available | Verify the exact model; many battery cameras do not expose standard RTSP. |
Recommendation
For a local-first SmartRTSP setup, prefer wired or powered cameras that explicitly support RTSP or ONVIF. If the camera is battery-only, doorbell-only, or deeply tied to a cloud subscription, confirm RTSP before buying.
