Official Documentation and Verification Scope
Documentation checked: 2026-10-18. Axis documents the standard RTSP endpoint and device API discovery separately. Match available parameters, services and account roles to the exact device and AXIS OS version; a successful stream does not verify every ONVIF, analytics or PTZ function.
These instructions are based on published documentation. This guide does not certify a physical camera, every model in the brand, or all audio, PTZ, event and recording functions in SmartRTSP.
Axis quick connection
Use rtsp://USER:PASS@IP:554/axis-media/media.amp for a basic manual test, or try ONVIF discovery first. Parameter availability varies by model and AXIS OS.

How to Connect Axis to SmartRTSP
Access Axis web interface
Open a browser and navigate to http://<camera-IP>. Log in with the account created during initial device setup. Account roles and authentication behavior vary by AXIS OS version, so check the exact device documentation.
Verify RTSP is enabled
In the web interface go to Settings → System → Network → Services. Confirm RTSP is enabled. Menu labels and service defaults vary by AXIS OS. Verify RTSP enablement, the configured port and the local account’s viewing rights.
Use ONVIF scan (recommended)
Try SmartRTSP's ONVIF scanner first. Discovery and supported ONVIF profiles depend on the exact model, firmware and configured account permissions.
Manual URL entry
If ONVIF discovery doesn't work, add manually in SmartRTSP:
