RTSP Compatibility

Does Blink Camera Support RTSP?

No — Blink cameras do not support RTSP. Blink is an Amazon product that uses a proprietary, cloud-only streaming protocol. This page explains why, covers all Blink models, and recommends the best RTSP-native alternatives for iPhone viewing.

RTSP Support: Not available on any Blink camera

This applies to all Blink models: Blink Outdoor (1st–4th gen), Blink Indoor, Blink Mini, Blink Video Doorbell, and Blink Floodlight. None expose an RTSP stream.

Why Blink Cameras Don't Support RTSP

Amazon's cloud-first architecture

Blink was acquired by Amazon in 2017, before Ring. Like Ring, Blink operates entirely through Amazon's cloud servers. When you view a live stream in the Blink app, the video travels from the camera to Amazon's cloud to your phone — even when you're on the same Wi-Fi network as the camera. There is no local path.

Battery-optimised design

Blink cameras are designed for extreme battery life — some models last up to 2 years on AA batteries. Maintaining a persistent RTSP server (like IP cameras do) would drain the battery rapidly. Blink cameras "sleep" between events and only transmit when triggered by motion, making continuous RTSP streaming technically incompatible with their hardware design.

Blink Subscription Plan revenue

Blink Subscription Plan ($3/month per camera, $10/month unlimited) provides cloud video storage and smart alerts. If Blink supported local RTSP, users could record directly to a NAS or NVR without needing the cloud plan, reducing Amazon's recurring revenue from the platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a Blink RTSP hack or workaround?
No reliable or maintained workaround exists for Blink RTSP. Unlike Wyze cameras (which have docker-wyze-bridge), no equivalent project exists for Blink. Blink's cloud protocol is not publicly documented, and camera firmware is closed source. The only practical path to RTSP is switching to a camera that supports it natively.
Can Blink Mini stream locally?
Blink Mini can save recordings locally via a USB drive connected to the Blink Sync Module 2 — but this is event-triggered clip storage, not a continuous local RTSP stream. Live viewing still requires the Blink app and Amazon's cloud servers.
Does Blink work without the Blink app?
Blink cameras are completely dependent on the Blink app and Amazon's servers. Without the app there is no way to view cameras, configure settings, or manage recordings. This is a fundamental constraint of the platform's cloud-only design.
