BRC-AM7 RTSP uses the configured listening port
Sony documents video1 and video2 addresses for the BRC-AM7 RTSP mode. The port is the RTSP Port Number configured on the camera; the Stream menu lists 554 as its default. Enter the local camera credentials required by the authentication setting.
rtsp://CAMERA_IP:RTSP_PORT/video1
rtsp://CAMERA_IP:RTSP_PORT/video2Select RTSP rather than another production mode
The BRC-AM7 Stream menu allows a streaming-format selection. RTMP publishing, SRT caller or listener operation, and NDI|HX have their own configuration. A working connection through one of those formats is not proof that the camera is currently serving RTSP.
Sony also documents output-format conditions affecting the available streams. In particular, video2 is unavailable for the specified high-resolution HDMI and system-frequency combination described in the Help Guide. Check those conditions on the camera instead of assuming that a second URL must always produce video.
Configure and verify the local video feed
- Identify the full Sony model and open its matching Help Guide. Use this address example only for the documented BRC-AM7 workflow.
- Connect the camera network and specified power interfaces, then confirm its reachable local address.
- Set a unique camera password and retain RTSP authentication for the viewing connection.
- Select RTSP in the Stream settings and note the actual RTSP Port Number, not a separate video or audio transport port.
- Choose an enabled video stream and confirm that the output format permits it. Copy the matching video1 or video2 URI.
- Add the address and camera account in SmartRTSP, then verify first-frame video and sustained playback on the receiving device.
Separate stream availability from viewer capabilities
The Sony guide explicitly does not guarantee playback in every application or device. A listed protocol therefore establishes a camera feature, not blanket compatibility with all encoding combinations or SmartRTSP platforms. Check the selected codec, resolution and audio configuration on the device that will actually display the feed.
Likewise, RTSP video does not establish Sony control-protocol, motor movement, preset, tally or tracking support. If video1 works but video2 does not, compare camera stream availability and output-format restrictions before changing credentials. If neither works, check the selected protocol, configured port and local account first. Do not adapt a Sony surveillance-camera template or a USB live-view workflow without model-specific documentation.
Check each feature independently
Start on the same local network with the exact model, firmware and account permissions. A working video stream does not prove support for ONVIF discovery, pan or tilt, two-way audio, events, or every recording feature. Test the features you need in your installed SmartRTSP app.
Keep camera credentials private. Do not expose camera ports to the public internet just to test local viewing. Manufacturer cloud accounts, device accounts and generated sharing links are not interchangeable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does every Sony camera use /video1?
No. It is documented here for the BRC-AM7. Other Sony families and firmware versions require their own instructions.
Why can video1 work while video2 is unavailable?
The BRC-AM7 has documented output-format and system-frequency conditions that can disable video2. Check the Help Guide and current camera settings.
Is the separate Video Port Number the RTSP URL port?
Use the RTSP Port Number for the RTSP address. The camera also exposes separate transport settings; those are not interchangeable with its RTSP listening port.
