    Look for RTSP settings

Find menus like "Network," "Stream Settings," "RTSP Configuration," or "Advanced Settings"

  4. 4

Copy the URL (usually starts with rtsp://) and paste into SmartRTSP

Brand-Specific RTSP URLs

🟢 Hikvision

rtsp://[username]:[password]@[camera-ip]:554/stream1

Or:

rtsp://[username]:[password]@[camera-ip]:554/stream2

Note: stream1 = main stream (higher quality), stream2 = sub-stream (lower bandwidth). Use stream1 for best results.

🔵 Reolink

rtsp://[username]:[password]@[camera-ip]/h264Preview_01_main

Or (newer models):

rtsp://[username]:[password]@[camera-ip]:554/stream0

Troubleshooting RTSP URLs

URL format is rtsp://... but SmartRTSP says "Connection Failed"

  • Check your username and password are correct
  • Verify your camera's IP address hasn't changed (set a static IP in router)
  • Make sure your iPhone/Mac is on the same Wi-Fi network as the camera
  • Try the alternative RTSP URL format for your brand (some cameras have multiple)

I can't find the RTSP setting in my camera's web interface

  • Look for "Network Settings" or "Advanced Settings"
  • Try ONVIF auto-discovery in SmartRTSP instead
  • Check the camera manual or brand support site for RTSP instructions
  • Some cameras have RTSP disabled by default — enable it in settings

My camera doesn't support RTSP at all

  • Try ONVIF auto-discovery in SmartRTSP (works even without RTSP)
  • Check if your camera brand has firmware updates that add RTSP support
  • If your camera only supports HTTP streaming, you may need a different viewer

Pro Tips

  • Prefer ONVIF auto-discovery in SmartRTSP when possible — it's more reliable than manual RTSP URLs
  • Set a static IP for your camera in your router so the IP doesn't change
  • Use the main stream (stream0 or stream1) for best video quality; use sub-streams if your network is slow
  • Change your default password after setup for security
  • Test locally first before trying remote access
