Quick answer
SADP is Hikvision’s local device discovery and configuration tool. It can identify compatible cameras, show activation status and change network settings. Use the official download page: Hikvision now recommends HiTools Delivery as its replacement. Complete camera setup before adding the stream to SmartRTSP.
Choose the supported tool for your installation
SADP means Search Active Devices Protocol. Its useful starting point is the device list: model, serial number, current address and security status help you identify the camera you actually own. It is a commissioning utility, so finding a camera here does not yet confirm that its video can play in another application.
Hikvision’s current tools page says SADP no longer receives updates from April 2026 and recommends HiTools Delivery. Check the regional official page for the supported operating system and device range. Existing SADP instructions remain useful for supported installations, but new deployments should review the replacement rather than download an old installer from a mirror.
Discover and activate the correct camera
Use a computer on the camera’s physical network segment. Match the serial number or MAC address to the camera label before making changes, especially when several new cameras are connected. Activation creates the camera’s administrator password; it is separate from installing a viewer.
Steps
- Power the camera with the specified supply or compatible PoE and confirm the network link.
- Open the official tool and refresh discovery after the camera finishes starting.
- Select only your device. If it is inactive, follow the supported activation flow and save a strong, unique password securely.
- Review its address, subnet mask and gateway. Use DHCP or an unused static address that fits the intended network, then refresh the list.
Check the address before opening a viewer
A factory address is model- and firmware-dependent, not a universal Hikvision address. Older documentation and newer products can differ, while a DHCP server may already have assigned an entirely different current address. The value discovered now is more useful than a number copied from a tutorial.
Open the camera’s web interface at the confirmed address and finish any model-specific streaming or ONVIF configuration. Then add that address and the appropriate account to SmartRTSP. If discovery works but video fails, investigate the stream path, account permission and codec separately. A camera behind an NVR’s isolated PoE ports may require the recorder’s documented access method.
Frequently asked questions
Is SADP a camera viewer?
Its primary purpose is device setup and maintenance. Use a compatible viewing application after the camera is activated and its stream is configured.
Why is the camera missing from SADP?
Check power, cabling, the selected network interface and whether the computer and camera share the required physical segment. A recorder’s private camera network or a VLAN can prevent discovery.
Does discovery reset the password?
No. Discovering a device does not grant access. Use the manufacturer’s authorized recovery process if the existing password is unavailable.
