RTSP Setup Guide

Wyze Camera RTSP Setup

Start with the exact camera model and installed firmware. Cam v3 and Cam Pan v3 gained native RTSP in 2026; Cam v4 needs a closer firmware check. Older separate firmware and third-party bridges are different setup routes.

Model and firmware first

Copy the URL generated by the camera or bridge. There is no single RTSP address or support promise for every Wyze camera.

The 2026-02-02 announcement also names Cam v3 Pro and Pan v2, but does not list RTSP in their release notes. Do not extend the Cam v3 or Pan v3 result to those models.

Enable native RTSP before considering a bridge

  1. Confirm the complete model name in the Wyze app. Cam v3, Cam v3 Pro, Cam Pan v3, and Cam v4 are separate products.
  2. Check the installed firmware and Wyze app version against the model guide and current Wyze release notes. For Cam v3 and Pan v3, update the app to at least 3.9 to access the announced RTSP feature.
  3. Open the camera settings and look for the RTSP control under Advanced Settings. If the control is available, enable it, create the camera streaming credentials, and copy the generated address.
  4. Add the generated address through SmartRTSP manual camera entry on the same LAN. Verify live video first, then audio, reconnect behavior, and the features you plan to use.

Legacy separate RTSP firmware is a different route

Wyze still publishes a separate RTSP firmware article covering Cam v2, Cam v3, and the original Cam Pan. That older branch has feature and maintenance caveats. It is not a reason to flash an older image onto a Cam v3 that already offers the newer native RTSP setting.

For Cam v2 or the original Pan, read the current manufacturer instructions before making changes. The article distinguishes the demo.bin file for v2/Pan from demo_wcv3.bin for the legacy v3 image; firmware files and LED steps are model specific. The original Pan image is not compatible with Pan v2.

Use the actual URL, including its protocol

Treat the camera-generated address as the reference for the scheme, port, path, and credentials. An address beginning rtsps:// requires encrypted-stream support in the viewer. This guide does not confirm SmartRTSP RTSPS compatibility; verify the exact address with your app version before relying on it.

Do not invent /stream1 or another substream from a different camera brand. A bridge address points to the bridge host and may use a different port and path from the camera itself.

What an RTSP connection does and does not confirm

A working video stream does not establish ONVIF discovery, pan/tilt control, two-way audio, camera events, or every recording feature. Add this camera by its generated URL and verify each feature you need in your installed SmartRTSP app.

Start with the camera and viewer on the same local network. Keep camera credentials private, reserve its address in your router if needed, and avoid exposing its streaming port to the internet. These instructions are based on published documentation; SmartRTSP has not independently verified this model on a physical camera for this guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Must every Wyze camera be flashed for RTSP?

No. The official 2026-02 production announcement added RTSP to Cam v3 and Pan v3 firmware. The separate legacy firmware instructions and third-party bridge approach apply to different situations.

Does every Wyze camera work with docker-wyze-bridge?

No. Check its current supported-camera table and the installed firmware. Its documentation marks limitations for models such as Cam OG and Battery Cam Pro; this guide does not promise bridge compatibility for them.

Is Cam v4 RTSP definitely limited to beta firmware?

The verified 2026-07 beta announcement added RTSP. Later public firmware notes do not explicitly describe its RTSP status, so check your installed firmware and whether the RTSP menu is present rather than assuming either universal support or beta-only support.

Sources and verification scope

Sources were checked on 2026-10-18. Firmware menus and release channels can change. These documentation checks are not a physical camera test or a guarantee that every feature works in SmartRTSP.
