HomeKit Bridge

Add a compatible RTSP/ONVIF camera to Apple Home. View it in the Home app, use Siri, and connect motion events to automations.

What HomeKit Bridge Does

SmartRTSP acts as a local HomeKit bridge — it re-encodes your RTSP stream into the HAP (HomeKit Accessory Protocol) format and exposes each camera as a native HomeKit camera accessory. No cloud service is involved.

🏠
Apple Home App

Camera appears as a native HomeKit accessory. Live stream and snapshots visible in the Home app.

🗣️
Siri

“Hey Siri, show me the front door camera.” Opens the camera on a supported screen such as iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV.

📺
Apple TV

Camera appears in the Apple TV Home app for large-screen monitoring.

HomeKit Automations

Motion sensor events from SmartRTSP can trigger HomeKit automations (lights, alerts, etc.).

Requirements

  • An Apple Home controller on the same network. A Home hub such as Apple TV or HomePod is needed for Apple Home remote access and hub-dependent automations.
  • The device running SmartRTSP must remain active and reachable because it serves the camera stream. Quitting or suspending the app makes the bridged camera unavailable.
  • A powered Mac is recommended for long-running bridging. iPhone and iPad cannot promise continuous service after iOS suspends the app.

Setting Up HomeKit

  1. 1 Open camera settings → HomeKit.
  2. 2 Tap Add to HomeKit. A QR code appears.
  3. 3 Open the iOS Home app → tap +Add Accessory → scan the QR code.
  4. 4 Follow the Home app wizard to assign the camera to a room and complete pairing.

What's Supported

✓ Supported
  • Live video stream (HAP camera)
  • Motion sensor (triggers HomeKit automations)
  • Snapshots in Home app
  • Siri commands
  • Apple TV Home app view
✗ Not Supported
  • Two-way audio (HomeKit side)
  • 4K streaming (HAP protocol caps quality)
  • HomeKit Secure Video recording (not provided by the SmartRTSP bridge)

Troubleshooting

Pairing fails

Confirm SmartRTSP device and your iPhone are on the same Wi-Fi network. Try closing and reopening the Home app.

Camera shows "Not Responding" in Home app

SmartRTSP may have been quit or the device is sleeping. Keep SmartRTSP running and consider using a Mac for always-on bridging.

High latency in Home app

Validate the camera sub stream, Wi-Fi signal, codec, and bridge-device load. Transcoding or a congested network can add delay.
