Why SmartRTSP for Pets
Real-time streaming — not through the cloud
SmartRTSP streams directly from your camera to your iPhone over home Wi-Fi. No cloud routing means lower latency and no vendor dependency — your pet feed is always available as long as your Wi-Fi is up.
Motion detection alerts when pets are active
Get a notification when motion is detected in the camera frame. Know when your dog is pacing, your cat knocks something over, or any movement happens in a monitored room.
Sound alerts
Sound detection notifies you when your pet barks, meows, or makes unusual noises. All audio analysis runs on-device — no audio recordings are sent to external servers.
Watch multiple rooms at once
Place cameras in the living room, kitchen, and garden, then view all feeds simultaneously in SmartRTSP's grid layout. No need to switch between feeds — see everything at once.
Battery-efficient on-device AI processing
Detection runs using efficient on-device AI optimised for iPhone and Mac. You can leave SmartRTSP running in the background monitoring for motion and sound without significant battery drain.
Best Cameras for Pet Monitoring
For pets, look for wide-angle coverage, pan-tilt capability to follow moving animals, and reliable RTSP support. These cameras work well:
TP-Link Tapo C200/C210 — Pan-tilt for following pets →
Tapo pan-tilt cameras let you remotely move the camera to follow your pet from wherever they roam in the room. Wide 360° horizontal coverage, night vision, and RTSP once enabled in the Tapo app.
Reolink E1/E1 Pro — Wide angle, great RTSP support →
Reolink indoor cameras offer a wide field of view, reliable RTSP out of the box, and IR night vision. ONVIF auto-discovery means setup in SmartRTSP takes seconds.
Eufy indoor cameras — Clean design, RTSP support →
Eufy's indoor cameras blend into home decor while providing clear video. With RTSP enabled, they integrate seamlessly with SmartRTSP for local pet monitoring without any cloud dependency.
Set Up Pet Monitoring in 5 Minutes
Place the camera where your pet spends time
Position it at a height that gives a good overview of the room. A pan-tilt camera on a shelf works great — you can reposition remotely to follow your pet.
Enable RTSP on the camera
In the camera's companion app (Tapo, Reolink, Eufy, etc.) enable RTSP access. Set a strong username and password for the RTSP stream.
Open SmartRTSP and tap Scan
SmartRTSP scans your home network for ONVIF cameras and adds them automatically. For cameras requiring manual entry, add the RTSP URL directly in the app.
Enable motion and sound detection
Tap on the camera and enable motion detection and sound alerts. You'll receive a notification on your iPhone when your pet becomes active — even when the app is in the background.
Review recordings when you return
Event-triggered recordings are saved locally on your device. Review what your pets were up to throughout the day without scrubbing hours of continuous footage.
